Considered to be one of the great actors of all time, Al Pacino was elevated to stardom after appearing in The Godfather: Part I, a role which he had fought to obtain from such competition as James Caan (the studio's favourite) and Robert De Niro.
After this role, Pacino found further success in Serpico before appearing in The Godfather: Part II and following this playing Tony Montana in Scarface.
He won an Academy Award for Scent of A Woman in 1992, after completing the Godfather saga in 1990. Due to contract problems with the makers of Scarface: The World is Yours, he could not reprise the role of Michael Corleone in The Godfather: The Game.
