The unnamed Barzini Capo was, as his name explains, a caporegime in the Barzini crime family.
He was likely well known and trusted in the family, seeing as Don Barzini trusted him in the murder of Corleone soldato Johnny Trapani.

In 1936, he and his brother Pietro Testa blew up Trapani's Bakery in Little Italy. In the chaos that followed, a small group of hitmen dragged Johnny Trapani into an the alleyway behind the bakery and attacked him. Despite being able to fend them off, Johnny was cornered when attempting to exit the alleyway by the capo, Pietro and Don Emilio Barzini himself.
