Born in Los Angeles, Bridget Fonda comes from a respected acting family, which includes Henry Fonda, Peter Fonda and Jane Fonda. She became involved with the theatre after appearing in a school production of Harvey, and later having a silent role in Partners.

In 1988, she appeared in Scandal, her first speaking role, having a few small roles afterwards. She was considered for the role of Mary Corleone in The Godfather: Part III, but was eventually cast in her largest role, that of Grace Hamilton, the journalist.

Fonda gained her greatest role in Single White Female, and continued to act until her marriage to composer Danny Elfman in 2003.
