Canada is a country north of the United States. Many criminals from Detroit, particularly the Purple Gang, smuggled goods such as alcohol into Canada due to its close proximity to the city. When the Purple Gang were eliminated, Joseph Zaluchi continued this practice. The Cuneo family arranged smuggling of Italian immigrants from Canada into the United States.
