A well-known character actor, John Marley (born Mortimer Marlieb) was best known for his roles in Love Story (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award) and The Godfather. He was at one point, considered for the role of Don Vito Corleone.
He died after having open heart surgery in 1984, at the age of 77.
