Peter Donat is an actor best known for his roles on television. His uncle was noted British actor Robert Donat.

Starting off as a stage actor, where he gained prestige for performing in the Stratford Festival, he appeared in productions as broad and prestigious as Mission Impossible, Cyrano de Bergerac, The Godfather Part II, The China Syndrome, and more recently, as Mulder's father in The X-Files.

Before being cast as Questadt, Donat was one of several actors short-listed to play Tom Hagen in The Godfather. He would later work with Francis Ford Coppola again on Tucker: The Man and His Dream.
