The Purple Gang was a criminal organization of predominantly Jewish-American bootleggers in Detroit in the 1920s.

The organization was primarily involved in bootlegging and hijacking, smuggling alcohol into the United States due to Detroit's proximity to Canada. Joseph Zaluchi used his connections with Vito Corleone to seize control of the city for himself, after many of the Purple Gang's members were either arrested or killed.
