Robert Towne is an American screenwriter and director.


Born in San Pedro, Los Angeles, Towne was the unofficial "script doctor" for The Godfather, and wrote the final scene between Vito Corleone and Michael. For this he received a mention in Coppola's Oscar acceptance speech.

Towne has become renowned for his work on films such as Chinatown and Mission Impossible as well as several television projects.
