Salvatore 'Silent Sam' Drago was the Don from Tampa.

BiographyEdit

Salvatore Drago studied to become a painter in Italy. His father, Vittorio Drago, was a Sicilian Don and a close friend of Lucky Luciano. He, like Michael Corleone, was reluctant to join his father's business. However, after Benito Mussolini came to power and banished much of the Mafia, he fled to Florida in the United States and became a racketeer.

By 1954, the same year Michael became Don, Sam Drago became the Don of the Florida crime family. Under him, there were rarely any arguments at all and there was maintained peace through Tampa. Drago was one of the three Dons approached by the CIA to form a squad of assassins gathered to assassinate Fidel Castro, the Dictator of Cuba.

Drago vouched for Carlo Tramonti many times, as having been friends with him for a long time. He was presumably killed by Joey Zasa's assassins at a Commission meeting in Atlantic City in 1979.

Behind the scenesEdit

In the original script for The Godfather Part II there is a reference made to 'Santo Virgilio' in Tampa. This was presumably the equivalent of Drago.

Real life sourcesEdit

Salvatore Drago is most likely based on Santo Trafficante, who also became the boss of Tampa in 1954 and had dealings in Cuba.
