In 1945 Sammy Graziano and Giancarlo Maldini is forced to pay money to the Corleones.Sammy's was a nightclub located on the Bowery in Little Italy. It was run by old time hustler Samuele "The Bull" Graziano, who found himself muscled by Tattaglia family hoodlum Giancarlo 'Sweets' Maldini into allowing in a prostitiution racket to be opened upstairs, unaware that Maldini carried very little power.

In 1945, Aldo Trapani, a protege of Luca Brasi, took the business over from the Corleones. The club and associated racket were frequented by the Little Italy Chief of police, who was discovered by Trapani and a local call girl to have killed his wife in a spat. The enforcer then blackmailed the chief into providing free protection for the family.
