An Italian actress born in Rome, Simonetta Stefanelli made her first appearence in La Moglie Giapponese and appeared in several Italian films before appearing in her first international role in The Godfather: Part I, as Apollonia, at the age of 16.
Later, she married actor Michele Placido with whom she had one child. They divorced in 1994.
Like fellow Godfather actor Abe Vigoda, Stefanelli was reported dead in 2005 but has since appeared in public to denounce these rumours.
